Even salads can have hidden calories when you order from a fast food restaurant. Sit down restaurants are an option that gives you more control over the food that you eat. When you are given a choice on side dishes, make sure you make the right ordering choices and opt for the freshest types of vegetables for your sides rather than mashed potatoes or other carbs. Side salads are a good option, but make sure that you get the dressing on the side to reduce your calories and fat consumption.

Stopping by a local health food store is also an option while traveling. You can find shops that sell organic produce in almost any region. Pack a cooler with some basic healthy snacks like fruit, sliced veggies and nuts for snacking if you are driving to your destination. Sometimes hotels and restaurants can be misleading to draw in your business. I have found reviews from other travelers to be the most honest and unbiased form of information.
